SUMMARY:Exploring Spiders of the Northwoods
DESCRIPTION:"What's good about a spider?" We all know some people who have real fears about these eight-legged creatures\, but after attending this hands-on class our guest presenter\, Larry Weber\, will debunk some myths and fears. By looking into the interesting lives of spiders\, it might just offer a new found respect and appreciation for the positive impacts spiders have on our daily lives. Larry is the author of "Spider of the North Woods" and various other field guides. He recently retired from a 40-year career as a science teacher and has won numerous awards in his career. Afternoon Session\, 4:30 ? 6 p.m. Participate in a short presentation followed by a walk to collect specimens that can be more closely identified. (Please note that there will is an hour break before the second session to wait for the sun to set. Feel free to enjoy one of our picnic areas with a packed dinner from home. Registered participants may also have access to the Nature Center?s kitchen equipped with a microwave and refrigerator.) Registration and full payment required by August 26. Friends $10 Nonmembers $15 Evening Session\, 7 ? 9 p.m. Begin this session with an illustrative presentation on spiders and then head outside to look for various spiders in action. Learn to identify spiders and their webs and which species are most commonly seen in our area. Please dress for an evening hike and bring insect repellant if needed.
