Arbor Place Counseling & Renewal Center will bring nationally known author and speaker William Cope Moyers to Menomonie this fall. Moyers will speak Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the University of Wisconsin-Stout Student Center. His appearance is co-sponsored by UW-Stout, Mayo Clinic Health System, and Bremer Bank and is free and open to all. Moyers, son of public television personality Bill Moyers, has personal and professional experience with addiction, treatment and recovery. He is the author of ?Broken: My Story of Addiction and Redemption,? a New York Times bestseller now in its third printing. He is vice president of public affairs and community relations for Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, and has appeared on Larry King Live and Oprah, and is a regular contributor to Good Morning America. Arbor Place, tucked away in a small building in Menomonie on the north side of the Mayo Clinic Medical Center since 1976, broke ground for a new, expanded facility in the Stout Tech Park in July. The $5.2 million project, funded by a USDA Rural Development grant and local support, will allow the non-profit, 501c3 agency to enhance current programming and expand services. The center is sponsoring an informal ?community read? before the Sept. 24 event. Groups can contact their local library to borrow copies. A reception at 5 p.m. before the talk is a major fundraising event for Arbor Place. Members of the 100 Women group with a pledge of $1000 (over 5 years that's $200/year) will have their name inscribed in the Healing Garden, an open-air, plant-filled courtyard at the new facility in which people whose lives are in chaos can find some quiet serenity. For more information about the 100 women group, contact Jill Gamez at Arbor Place, 715 235 4537. The mission of Arbor Place, Inc. is to provide prevention, treatment, renewal, & recovery opportunities to individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance abuse & dependence and mental health disorders.
