Chippewa Youth Symphony Concert

The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony (CVYS) will perform its final concert of the 2008-2009 season, “Celebrating the Talents of Our Youth,” on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 4:30p.m. at the North High School Auditorium in Eau Claire.  The seniors in CVYS will be recognized during the performance and a reception to follow.  Under the direction of Mr. Eugene Power, the orchestra will perform portions of the Carmen Suite No. 1 and the Carmen Suite No.2, by Georges Bizet, and The Moldau (Vltava) by Bedrich Smetana.  Under the direction of Matt Tiller, CVYS will perform Abduction from the Seraglio by W.A. Mozart.

Featured in this concert is an original piece composed by CVYS flute musician, Wesley Peterson.  Cole Hanson, winner of the 2nd Annual Concerto Competition will perform Concerto for Clarinet K. 622, Movement I by W.A. Mozart. This concert is free and open to the public.

The mission of the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony is to provide a unique opportunity for area youth to develop and showcase their artistry in the symphonic tradition while enhancing their lives and the cultural environment of the communities in which they live.  The auditioned group is made up of more than 65 musicians in 7th-12th grade from the broader Chippewa Valley.
