Design for Digital Fabrication

Interested in gaining access to the FabLab at Stout?  This training is normally $140 but the library is offering it for free.  Register online at:  http://www.uwstout.edu/discoverycenter/fablab-events.cfm Registration starts Monday, October 7 The Discovery Center FABLAB is a global network of labs for creative and innovative people to design, prototype and build things.  The FABLAB provides access to a variety of tools, including computer-aided design (CAD) and desktop manufacturing technologies (laser engraver, 3D printer, mini-mill, vinyl cutter, CNC router), to help bring your ideas to life.  The Introduction to Design for Digital Fabrication is first in a series of classes introducing community members to digital design and fabrication.  The second and third class in the series, Introduction to FABLAB Equipment and How to Make Almost Anything, will be held in the coming year ? watch for them!    Introduction to Design for Digital Fabrication ?? October 28, November 4, November 11 and November 18 from 6pm to 8pm at the Menomonie Public Library Meeting Room, Menomonie, WI  You will learn the design tools necessary for using 3D printers and the Fab Lab equipment.  The course is intended to familiarize the student to 2D and 3D modeling and digital design.  Participants will receive ?hands on? training in a lab type setting and gain an understanding of orthographic projections, pictorial drawings, and revolutions.  Using Google SketchUp Make (free download at Google), participants will develop a basic understanding of a CAD system and the techniques that are essential for real world prototyping and fabrication.   Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop and to gain access to Google SketchUp Make software prior to the first class.  This class is a prerequisite for Introduction to FABLAB Equipment and How to Make Almost Anything which will be held in 2014.  Class is limited to 12 participants, so sign up soon. Career and Technical Education (current).  Fab Lab Instructor Related courses taught include Intro to Drafting and Design, Architectural Drafting, Mechanical Drafting/Design and Engineering Design.  Kevin was a Tech Ed teacher in Antigo, Wi, for a number of years and is currently completing a masters at UW-Stout and is teaching in the Fab Lab.  He enjoys hunting, fishing and farming.   This class is sponsored and supported by the Menomonie Public Library.  Cost FREE ?
