MHS Mad City Money Event
Thursday, February 14, 2013
7:30 a.m.- Noon
MHS Main Gymnasium
Mad City Money is a 2 hour hands-on simulation that gives youth a taste of the real world, complete with occupation, salary, spouse, student loan and credit card debt, as well as medical expenses and homeownership responsibilities. Students take on the role of an adult in futuristic Mad City. They are assigned jobs, income, a family and debt. The challenge? Visit merchants to select housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, day care, and other wants and needs while building a budget. Participants are allowed to make mistakes and suffer the consequences of their decisions – in a realistic, but safe, environment. Once students have their eyes opened by this real life experience, they are encouraged to start planning and budgeting for adult independence.
MHS is looking for community support in volunteers to represent the various stores/merchants. If you would like to participate, please contact Lori Ausman, Mad City Money volunteer coordinator at lausman@westconsincu.orgto express your interest. Requests for volunteers will be sent out in early January 2013.
