One in three women worldwide are sexually assaulted but less than 50% of sexual assault crimes are reported. Take Back the Night is an international foundation where women take a stand and speak out against sexual assault. The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. The national goal this year is to start prevention efforts early in encouraging healthy sexuality starting with child development in the teaching of personal boundaries and prevention of child sexual abuse.
· The Take Back the Night event on April 20th begins at 5:30pm at the Raw Deal — There will be speakers and an open mic followed by a candle-lit walk to the UW-Stout clock tower at 7pm to honor victims and survivors.
*Houa from the Bridge to Hope is also accepting letters through email if anyone would like to submit one that would be read anonymously during the event. (houal@thebridgetohope.org)
