Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Computer Networking & Infrastructure Engineering/Cybersecurity at the Assistant Professor level with an anticipated start date of August 17th, 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 ·         Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, especially those in support of the BS CNIE and BS Cybersecurity programs. The teaching load is typically 24 credits per academic year (12 credits per semester).

·         Engage in curriculum development, research, and scholarly activities.

·         Provide academic advisement to students in the BS CNIE and BS Cybersecurity programs.

·         Collaborate with industry partners to maintain and develop new opportunities for students.

·         Contribute to course and program assessment of student learning in collaboration with faculty and staff.

·         Provide service to the department and the university along with other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Department:

The Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Department offers all the core courses necessary for the Cybersecurity program, the Computer Networking and Infrastructure Engineering program, the ABET-accredited Computer Science program, the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science program, as well as coursework supporting the ABET-accredited Computer and Electrical Engineering program.

 

Since 2017, University of Wisconsin-Stout has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

 

UW-Stout is the first four-year university to receive this designation in the state of Wisconsin. The NSA and DHS have certified that UW-Stout’s Computer Networking and Information Technology (CNIT) curriculum meets or exceeds the requirements for CAE designation, as cited by the National Information Assurance Education and Training Program (NIETP).

 

The CNIE program, formerly known as the CNIT program, has been awarded multiple Department of Defense Cybersecurity grants to support cybersecurity curricula development and cybersecurity capacity building. CNIE students have repeatedly won recognition for their IT and security skills in national and international competitions.

 

We are a very inclusive department of 33 full-time members with a commitment to diversity, a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, and a growing program of scholarship and research in computer networking, information technology, cybersecurity, computer science, mathematics, statistics, and related areas. The department is committed to student-centered and technology-enhanced instruction. Technology usage includes students working on laptops in the classroom, web enhancements (e.g., Canvas course management and online homework systems), and interactive distance education course. Our department members actively serve and participate in a wide range of prominent research conferences and communities, both regionally and on the international stage. These engagements extend to well-respected organizations such as IEEE, ACM, CCSC, and ACM/SIGITE.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctoral degree or Master’s degree with ABD status in Computer Networking, Cybersecurity or related discipline by employment start date. A doctoral degree is required for awarding of tenure.
  • Commitment to teaching undergraduate courses in Computer Networking and Cybersecurity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, in-person and/or online.
  • Minimum of three to five years of hands-on industry experience in Cybersecurity and Computer Networking.
  • Strong technical knowledge and applied skills in Cybersecurity and Computer Networking.
  • Hands-on experience with firewall technologies (e.g., Palo Alto), penetration testing, network security, disaster recovery, and incident response.
  • Current industry-recognized certification(s) in IT (e.g., Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer [PCNSE], GIAC Certified Incident Handler [GCIH], GIAC Penetration Tester [GPEN], Cisco Certified Network Professional [CCNP]).
  • Demonstrated potential of scholarly activity in Cybersecurity and Computer Networking.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
