Job Duties:

  • Responsibilities: 
  • Teach laboratory sections of a variety of courses which may include general chemistry, organic chemistry, materials and polymer chemistry. 
  • Teach introductory chemistry courses as needed. 
  • Manage general chemistry laboratory spaces and student workers. 
  • Provide Department Chair and students the course syllabi. Ensure that the syllabi align with the officially approved course curriculum information and includes instructor contact information. 
  • Communicate directly with the Department Chair regarding available course resources (textbooks, e-books, student expenses, etc.) and resource request timelines/procedures established by the university. 
  • Schedule and maintain office hours for students in alignment with departmental expectations. 
  • Provide grades following the process/timeline established by the Registrar. 
  • Participate in the university online learning environment, which includes the Canvas learning management system. 
  • Participate in course and/or program assessment practices as requested. 
  • Work with the Disability Services office (http://www.uwstout.edu/disability) to foster an inclusive learning environment when students disclose the need for learning accommodations. 
  • Attend department/unit meetings as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance

 

Department:

The Department of Chemistry and Physics is composed of 16 faculty and instructional academic staff dedicated to providing excellent educational experiences in the classroom and laboratory.  The department manages the majors of Chemistry, Physics, and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and provides courses for a variety of other majors such as Biology, Food Science, Dietetics, Engineering as well as general education.  The department has modern teaching laboratories and maintains a wide variety of instrumentations for research and education.
 

Compensation:

Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  A six-month probationary period is required

Required Qualifications:

  • M.S. or ABD in Chemistry or related discipline by January 2026.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of teaching experience, which may include lab instruction, running class discussions and/or lectures.   
  • Emphasis in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and/or materials science is preferred.
