Custodian

Job Duties:
Duties and responsibilities cleaning and set-up of meeting rooms, lounges, hallways, entryways, and restrooms.  Set-up changes include moving, adding, or subtracting tables and chairs.  Seasonal duties include snow and ice removal from sidewalks, ramps, and steps.  This position requires the use of cleaning chemicals, vacuums, dust mop, wet mop, emptying out garbage, and cleaning surfaces.  

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs

Department:
The Memorial Student Center is the place that helps students feel at home.  They can dine, visit Stoutfitters, get information about joining student organizations, catch a concert and connect with other students.  The MSC is more than a building.  It’s a place to learn new ideas, embrace diversity, become a student employee, present research, or attend a conference.  The MSC and Price Commons have several large and numerous small spaces for meetings, conferences, events and studying.   
Compensation:
The minimum starting salary is $ 15.00 per hour.  The hourly rate for this position is negotiable based on experience and available budget.  A six-month probation is required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions and prioritize non-routine situations.  
  • Willingness to learn and become proficient with standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, tools, products, and equipment used in providing custodial services.   
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the position's duties. 
  • Excellent work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness. 
  • Work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts. 
 
Special Qualifications:
  • Required to pass the Essential Job Function Screening.  
  • Must pass a criminal background check. 
  • Required to clean up bodily fluids/bloodborne pathogens.  
  • Required to have a driver’s license. 
Physical Demands  
  •  Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Handle frequent bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, and ladder climbing.
